The Old Melburnian's Lodge was founded in 1923 by the Old Boys and Staff of Melbourne Grammar School. However the Lodge is not restricted and any man with strong moral values and principles is welcome to join us. Our membership is made up of good men from all walks of life. People become Freemasons for a variety of reasons, some as a result of family tradition, others upon the introduction of a friend or out of curiosity to know what it is all about. Those who become active members, and who grow into Freemasonry, do so principally because they enjoy it. They take pleasure from the fellowship and the challenges that Freemasonry offers. There is more to it, however than just enjoyment. Participation in the dramatic presentation of moral lessons, and in the working of the lodge, provides a member with a unique the opportunity to learn more about himself. It encouages him to live in such a way that he will always be in search of becoming a better man. Not better than someone else, but better than he himself would otherwise be, and therefore an exemplary member of society. Each Freemason is required to learn and show humility through initiation. By progessing through a series of degrees, he gains insight into increasingly complex and philiosophical concepts, and accepts a variety of challenges and responsibilities which are both stimulating and rewarding. The structure and working of the lodge and sequence of ceremonial events, which are usually followed by a meal, drink and social gathering, offer members a framework for companionship, teamwork, character development and ejoyment of shared experiences.
Lodge Meetings are held at 7.30pm on the First Tuesday of the Month (January and November Excepted)
The Lodge meets at the Prahran Masonic Temple 36 St Edmonds Road PRAHRAN VIC 3181
Freemasonry is an organisation of good men, supporting each other, their families and the community.
Freemasonry is a well-established and honourable fraternity. Members share a strong set of values and principles, which encourage social, philanthropic, intellectual and moral guidance for each other and our families.
Through individual Freemason's Lodges, ceremonies and presentations reinforce these values, stimulate thinking and develop self-awareness.
The Lodges enable friendship, networking, counselling, mentoring, tolerance and philanthropy in the community.
The Three Great Principles of Freemasonry are Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth.
Brotherly Love - Every true Freemason will show tolerance and respect for the opinions of others and behave with kindness and understanding towards his fellow creatures.
Relief - Freemasons are taught to practice charity, and to care not only for their members, but for their community as a whole, though charitable giving and voluntary effort.
Truth - Freemasonry strives for truth and requires high moral standards of its members.
